A soundbar is the speaker that sits under your TV and plays its sound over one HDMI or optical cable. They come on their own, with a separate subwoofer, or as a full set with rear speakers, and we group them that way. Choose by what is in the box, how many channels it plays, whether the Dolby Atmos height is real or virtual, and whether it plugs into your TV's eARC port. Most makers publish no power figure for the whole set, so we show one only when it is stated and never rank on it.

A bar plus a separate subwoofer you can put anywhere in the room, usually wireless. The most common kind of set and a clear step up in bass for films. Look at the channel count, whether the Dolby Atmos height is real or virtual, and that the bar plugs into your TV's eARC port.
