Straight from the spec sheets
Most of the 137 speakers with a published range ask for about 25 W to 120 W per channel. Heco Direkt Einklang gets going with as little as 5 W, while Dali Epicon 8 will happily take 500 W.
Klipsch R-51PM at 107 dB sensitivity, so a modest amp will do; anything over 90 dB counts as easy. The hardest to drive here is Dali Spektor 1 at 83 dB.
Polk Audio S10 at 6 lb. The heaviest we list is Focal Electra 1038Be at 112.2 lb, so check the shelf or the stand before you order.
SVS Prime Pinnacle reaches down to 29 Hz on the maker's own figure, the lowest of the 159 speakers here. At the other end, Arche Audio FR 2 stops at 100 Hz.
From our buying guide
88 spec sheets
The sweet spot for most rooms. Bookshelf speakers sit on a stand or a shelf, take up little space, and the good ones give away surprisingly little to a tower except the last octave of bass. Pair with a subwoofer later if you miss it.
59 spec sheets
Bigger cabinets, more drivers, deeper bass without a subwoofer. Towers want a bit of room to breathe and an amp with some grip, so check the amp power line before you fall for one.
2 spec sheets
The one that carries dialogue in a surround setup. Match it to your front pair by brand and series if you can, so voices sound the same as they pan across the screen.
7 spec sheets
The amp is inside, so you plug in a source and play. No receiver, no speaker cable runs, often Bluetooth built in. The easiest route to good sound on a desk or in a small room.
