The short answer

The Klipsch RB-81 is my pick here. It takes every aspect on this comparison, and on sound quality, bass response and value for money the margins are wide rather than narrow. Buy the Dali Zensor 1 if the shape of your room makes the decision for you. At 274 mm tall and 20.5 lb it slots onto a real bookshelf or a slim stand in a bedroom, which a 483 mm, 66.1 lb cabinet will never do.

Verdict

Which should you buy?

The Klipsch RB-81 is my pick here. It takes every aspect on this comparison, and on sound quality, bass response and value for money the margins are wide rather than narrow.

Buy the Dali Zensor 1 if the shape of your room makes the decision for you. At 274 mm tall and 20.5 lb it slots onto a real bookshelf or a slim stand in a bedroom, which a 483 mm, 66.1 lb cabinet will never do. It is the harder load of the two at 86.5 dB sensitivity and 6 ohms, rated for 25 to 100 W, so pair it with a competent amplifier; its 106 dB maximum SPL is plenty for apartment levels, though that figure describes how loud it plays, not how little power it asks for. Response is quoted down to 53 Hz, so budget for a subwoofer if you listen to anything bass heavy. My tweeter covers arrived damaged, so inspect yours on delivery.

Everyone else should take the bigger box. The 8 inch mid-woofer and 97 dB sensitivity into 8 ohms are most of the story: deep, full, punchy low end, a clean and balanced midrange that held together wherever I sat, and enough efficiency that a modest amplifier drives it comfortably. It reaches down to 46 Hz and carries a 5 year warranty against 2 years on the Dali. Three things to know before you order. It is sold individually rather than as a pair, so buy two units or you will end up hunting down the second one afterwards. In a small room the highs can turn sharp and the ported bass can go a little loose. And it wants burn-in time and proper stands before it sounds settled. Give the Klipsch RB-81 a decent sized room and it is the better speaker by a clear margin.
