The short answer

For most rooms, my pick is the Dali Zensor 7. It is the better sounding speaker of the two and the better buy for the money. Buy the floorstander if you have the floor space and want the fuller performance of the two. Twin 7 inch woofers and a port tuned to 40 Hz take it down to a rated 40 Hz, and with 110 dB max SPL and a 40 to 150 W amp range it fills a medium or large room without strain.

Verdict

Which should you buy?

For most rooms, my pick is the Dali Zensor 7. It is the better sounding speaker of the two and the better buy for the money.

Buy the floorstander if you have the floor space and want the fuller performance of the two. Twin 7 inch woofers and a port tuned to 40 Hz take it down to a rated 40 Hz, and with 110 dB max SPL and a 40 to 150 W amp range it fills a medium or large room without strain. It leads on sound quality, bass response, midrange clarity and treble detail by clear margins, and it is the stronger showing on value for money too. The 5 year warranty is the longer of the two. The Dali Zensor 7 is the pair I would live with long term.

The Zensor 1 is the one to buy for a small room, a desk, or any space where a 978 mm cabinet would take over. At 274 mm tall it sits happily on a shelf or a stand, and it takes design by a narrow margin, which counts for something if the speakers have to look right in a living space. It does a lot at low volume, and the mids and treble stay clear and easy to listen to over long sessions. Two things to plan for: it runs to a rated 53 Hz with a 51.5 Hz port tuning, so a subwoofer is a fair thing to budget for if you want real weight under the music, and the tweeter covers are soft enough that they can turn up damaged, so check them on arrival.
