Verdict

Which should you buy?

The Focal Aria 906 is my pick for anyone buying on sound: it leads on sound quality, midrange clarity and treble detail by clear margins. The Pioneer SP-FS52 is the smarter buy if the budget is the binding constraint.

Buy the Focal Aria 906 if the sound itself is the thing you care about most. I hear detailed, clear and balanced reproduction from it, with a midrange that stays realistic and natural on voices and acoustic instruments, and treble that is crisp without turning metallic. It is at its best at low and near-field levels, where distortion stays minimal and small details like finger snaps survive intact. It is a 2-way of 390 mm rated 55 Hz to 28 kHz, 89.5 dB at 8 Ω, with a published amplifier range of 25 to 120 W, so nothing exotic is needed to drive it. Two caveats: high notes at high volume can lose composure, and the veneer on the side panels is vinyl rather than solid wood.

Buy the Pioneer SP-FS52 if you want most of a capable tower for a fraction of the outlay. Value is where it wins outright, and it earns that: a 3-way floorstander with twin 5.12 inch mid-woofers, rated 40 Hz to 20 kHz, that sounds well balanced and coherent once it has a dozen hours of playing behind it. Rock and pop have real energy through it, the midrange is well rounded, and the plain cabinet disappears into a room rather than dominating it. Add a subwoofer if you listen to EDM or large orchestral scores, and expect the high end to sound a little hard until it settles. For a first proper pair of towers, or a system where the budget has to cover a receiver too, I would not argue with it.
