Dali Oberon 3 vs Dynaudio Emit M20: which should you buy?

The Dali Oberon 3 is my pick, and the gap is wider than the spec sheets suggest. It leads on sound quality, bass, treble detail, design and value, with only the midrange sitting close between the two.

Buy it if you want one pair of speakers that does most things well without asking you to build a system around them. The 7 inch mid-woofer and 49 Hz port tuning give it real weight for a bookshelf, low end that integrates rather than thumps, and I would only add a subwoofer if I wanted proper heft in the bottom octaves. The highs are finely resolved but can turn sharp on poor recordings, and certain vocal registers pick up a boxy edge, both of which a little care with placement and EQ sorts out. It is also the easier speaker to live with visually, and it carries a 3 year warranty. For most rooms and most budgets, the Dali Oberon 3 is the safer buy.

The Emit M20 makes more sense if you already own an amplifier you trust and you listen mostly to jazz, acoustic and electronic material, where speed and separation matter more than low end weight. It is a 4 ohm, 86 dB load with no published power rating, so it rewards a serious partner and exposes a weak one. Fed properly it sounds forward, fast and open, with a sense of depth and staging that holds its own against much pricier speakers. Go in knowing the compromises: it runs bright through the upper mids, the bass is lean enough that bass driven music suffers, and the styling is plain. If that presentation is what you are after and you can supply the amp and the room treatment, it earns its place. Otherwise the other pair is the easier recommendation.
