Dali Zensor 1 vs Dali Spektor 2: which should you buy?

The Dali Spektor 2 is my pick. It takes every scored aspect against the Zensor 1, and the gaps in treble detail, bass response and value are wide enough that I would not spend long deliberating.

The Zensor 1 still makes sense in a specific setup. It is the easier of the two to drive at 86.5 dB sensitivity against 84.5 dB, and it is rated 1 dB higher for maximum SPL, so if you are running a modest integrated amp near the bottom of the 25 to 100 W window it will ask less of the electronics. The cabinet is the heavier one at 20.5 lb, and in a small room the wide, well separated soundstage does real work on acoustic and vocal material. Go in knowing the low end is the weak point: bass is tight and accurate down to 53 Hz but not deep, and the balance leans bright, so budget for a subwoofer if you want weight underneath.

For everyone else, the Spektor 2 is the one I would buy. It leads on sound quality, treble detail and bass response by clear margins, and edges ahead on midrange clarity and design as well, with vocals sitting front and center and highs that stay detailed rather than turning hard over a long session. Value is another clear win. The trade is 2 dB less sensitivity, so give it an amplifier with some current behind it rather than the smallest box on the shelf, and like its sibling it is happiest in small to medium rooms, with a subwoofer if you want the bottom octave filled in. It is still the better speaker on every count I measure it by, and it gives back more for what it costs.
